Last night saw the final round of games from this seasons Championnat National.
The big winners were Guingamp who secured their promotion back to Ligue 2 and Gap who survived the drop.
Guingamp knew going into the game that a point would be enough for them to secure promotion as Strasbourg had already completed their games the week before. They got off to a great start and were 2-0 up away at Rouen after just 30 minutes thanks to goals from El Jadeyaoui and Mathieu Scarpelli.
Rouen pulled one back just before half-time to add a little tension to predcedings but Guingamp secured the victory and thier promotion thanks to a second goal from El Jadeyaoui after 73 minutes.
Gap also went into their game with Creteil knowing that a point would be enough to save them from relegation. Things started to look shaky for them just before half-time when they conceeded a penalty. As things stood at half-time Gap were still safe as Bayonne and Rodez were not leading in their games.
Gap started the second half strongly equalising after three minutes from a goal by Bouyarmani, this turned out to be the final goal of the game and Gap had done enough to survive.
Bayonne had done their part by beating Cannes 2-0 at home, but Rodez were unable to win their game at home to Niort, where they drew 1-1. These results saw Bayonne and Rodez join Plabennec, Alfortville and Gueugnon in being relegated to the CFA.
So a great season for Bastia, Amiens and Guingamp who have been promoted to Ligue 2.
- Créteil 1 – 1 Gap
- Luzenac 2 – 1 Paris
- Rodez 1 – 1 Niort
- Fréjus St-Raphaël 1 – 0 Beauvais
- Amiens SC 1 – 0 Bastia
- Pacy Vallée-d’Eure 1 – 1 Plabennec
- Orléans 2 – 0 Colmar
- Bayonne 2 – 0 Cannes
- Rouen 1 – 3 Guingamp
It was a night of missed opportunity in the Championnat National this evening.
Amiens had the opportunity to seal promotion to Ligue 2 when they faced 4th placed Strasbourg this evening but the promotion outsiders held them to a 1-1 draw which means Amiens will have to wait until Friday for another shot at promotion when they face Cannes.
Guingamp were also looking to strengthen their promotion position but were also held to a 1-1 away at mid-table Luzenac. Already promoted Bastia beat already relegated Alfortville 4-0 to put themselves 8 points clear of second placed Amiens and look set to win the league this season.
Elsewhere Cannes missed the chance to close the gap at the top after being held 1-1 away at Orleans.
It turned out to be an evening of draws that has failed to settle any of the promotion and relegation battles. Creteil, Pacy, Frejus and Bastia were the only teams to pick up all three points tonight.
Luzenac 1 – 1 Guingamp
Créteil 4 – 2 Niort
Pacy Vallée-d’Eure 2 – 1 Colmar
Fréjus St-Raphaël 3 – 1 Paris
Beauvais 1 – 1 Gap
Orléans 1 – 1 Cannes
Alfortville 0 – 4 Bastia
Rodez 0 – 0 Bayonne
Amiens SC 1 – 1 Strasbourg
Alfortville were relegated to the CFA after a 2-0 defeat away at Niort this evening. The result leaves them 15 points from safety with just 12 left to play for.
Elsewhere, already promoted Bastia were held to a goal-less draw at home to Pacy. Second placed Amiens closed the gap between them and Bastia to just six points thanks to a 2-0 win over Bayonne, which should make the race to be crowned champions alot more interesting.
Third placed Guingamp pulled off the result of the night by smashing five past Creteil in a 5-1 victory at the Stade du Roudourou. Two goals from Giresse mean that he is now the leading goalscorer in the division with 19, overtaking Bastia (and ex-Guingamp) striker David Suarez who is on 18 for the season.
In the early kick-off Gap beat Plabennec 3-1 to pull themselves out of the drop zone and send their visitors into the relegation zone.
With only a couple of weeks of the season left it looks like Amiens and Guingamp will be joining Bastia in gaining promotion to Ligue 2 and at the bottom there are still 7 teams fighting to avoid the three remaining relegation spots. There should be some tense games in the next couple of weeks.
Results in full:
- Gap 3 – 1 Plabennec
- Cannes 2 – 0 Luzenac
- Bastia 0 – 0 Pacy Vallée-d’Eure
- Rouen 1 – 1 Rodez
- Guingamp 5 – 1 Créteil
- Bayonne 0 – 2 Amiens SC
- Colmar 3 – 2 Fréjus St-Raphaël
- Niort 2 – 0 Alfortville
- Paris 2 – 2 Beauvais
- Strasbourg 2 – 0 Orléans
There is a full card of fixtures in the Championnat National this evening.
The only piece of up/down news that can occur tonight is that Alfortville can be relegated if they fail to win away at Niort, they could still be relegated however if Plabennec, Pacy and Bayonne all win their respective matches. With their fate out of their own hands it seems likely that they will be relegated this season.
At the top of the table Bastia are already promoted, Amiens and Guingamp occupy the two remaining promotion spots, Amiens travel to struggling Bayonne and Guingamp host mid-table Creteil. The only team that looks likely of catching them now is Strasbourg, they play host to mid-table Orleans who are stuttering of late with just one win in their last four games.
Elsewhere Paris FC are not sure of safety yet and they face a difficult evening playing host to 5th placed Beauvais.
