Patrick Vieira appointed as OGC Nice manager- Vieira replaces Lucien Favre

Nice have confirmed the appointment of former Arsenal midfielder Patrick Vieira as their new manager. The job with OGCN is Vieira’s first in Europe- he was previously in charge of New York City in the MLS. Rumours had him as Arsene Wenger’s possible successor at the Emirates, but he has chosen to return to his native France to replace Lucien Favre, who left Les Aiglons for Borussia Dortmund this summer. Europa League Round of 32 Draw | Opponents for French sides Lyon, Nice and Marseille revealed

Here are the opponents for French sides Lyon, Nice and Marseille from today’s Europa League Round of 32 draw.

There were three French teams in the group stages of the Europa League and all three qualified for the Round of 32 as runners up- Lyon behind Atalanta, Nice behind Lazio and Marseille behind Red Bull Salzburg.

There could have been a fourth Ligue 1 representative in the Round of 32 had Monaco atleast managed to finish third in their Champions League group, but the principality outfit finished last and bowed out of Europe altogether. Continue reading

Nice upset Europa League finalists Ajax, qualify for Champions League Playoff Round

A stunning result for Nice in Amsterdam this evening, with Les Aiglons securing a 2-2 draw against Europa League finalists Ajax that saw them prevail on the away goals rule (3-3 on aggregate) in their Champions League third qualifying round tie.

OGCN were the only French side in action in the third qualifying round, with champions Monaco and second place Paris Saint-Germain already guaranteed of a spot in the group stages.

Souquet and Marcel were on target at the Amsterdam Arena for Nice- their goals came in the 3rd and 79th minutes respectively.

Nice’s opponents in the next round will be one of Sevilla, Napoli, Liverpool, Sporting Lisbon or CSKA Moscow, with OGCN being an unseeded team in the league route part of the playoffs. Continue reading
