Week 26 Round Up- Marseille suffer rare league home defeat; OL climb up the table

Marseille suffered a rare league defeat as Nantes upset them 3-1 at the Velodrome. Andre-Villas Boas’ men had lost only once at home in the league this season prior to this clash, and FCN’s stunning 3-1 triumph saw them have three players in L’Equipe’s Team of the Week.

Lyon, the only other away side other than Nantes to win in this round, were the big gainers, with their 2-0 triumph seeing Les Gones jump from 11th to 7th in the standings.

Marseille’s defeat however didn’t affect their league standings- they still retain a comfortable eight point lead over third placed Lille, who saw off bottom of the table Toulouse 3-0. Fourth placed Rennes beat Nimes 2-1- a match that saw more headlines for Anthony Briancon’s clothesline on poor Eduardo Camavinga than the actual game, which SRFC won thanks to Mbaye Niang’s last gasp goal.

Nimes’ loss saw them drop into the bottom three and allowed Dijon, who held Monaco to a 1-1 draw, to emerge out of it. Speaking of ASM, only two points separate them in fifth from Nantes in 11th!

Angers created some distance between themselves and the drop zone with a 1-0 win over Montpellier at home. Rounding off proceedings were PSG, who bounced back from their midweek Champions League set back against Dortmund to beat Bordeaux 4-3.
