Metz promoted on goal difference, join Dijon and Nancy in Ligue 1 for 2016/17

Bob Bradley’s Le Havre were denied promotion as Metz squeaked through on goals scored after a dramatic final round of fixtures in Ligue 2.

Metz suffered a 1-0 loss to Lens, while Le Havre hammered Bourg en Brasse 5-0. The two results meant that both Metz and Bob Bradley’s side were tied on points and goal difference, but the former’s 54 goals scored (in comparison to Le Havre’s 52) saw them finish ahead of their rivals and join champions Nancy and Dijon in the top flight. Nancy promoted to Ligue 1 after 1-0 win over Sochaux

AS Nancy Lorraine will play in Ligue 1 next season after Monday night’s 1-0 win over FC Sochaux. The club won 1-0 thanks to Clement Lenglet’s early strike and now have an unassailable 12 point lead over fourth placed Le Havre with only three games left to play. A crowd of 19,237 attended this fixture at Stade Marcel Picot.
