AS Nancy Lorraine will play in Ligue 1 next season after Monday night’s 1-0 win over FC Sochaux. The club won 1-0 thanks to Clement Lenglet’s early strike and now have an unassailable 12 point lead over fourth placed Le Havre with only three games left to play. A crowd of 19,237 attended this fixture at Stade Marcel Picot.
Nancy were relegated from Ligue 1 at the end of the 2012/13 but have managed a return to the top flight after three seasons in Ligue 2. 2017 will also mark the 50th year of Nancy’s founding, and they will be keen to stay in Ligue 1
Dijon have also been promoted, but there are plenty of teams vying for the third and final promotion spot, with Metz, Le Havre, Lens, Red Star and Clermont all in with a chance.
From 2016/17, Ligue 2 will have only two promoted teams, with the third having to play in a two legged playoff tie against the 18th placed team from Ligue 1.
