Zlatan Ibrahimovic was named Ligue 1’s Player of the Year for the third time on Sunday. The UNFP Trophees (France’s version of the PFA, as voted for by peers), saw Ibra beat Angel di Maria, Hatem ben Arfa and Lassana Diarra to the crown. Ibra’s coach at PSG, Laurent Blanc, won the Coach of the Year award for the second season running.

Olympique Marseille guaranteed their spot in Ligue 1 next season as they beat SCO Angers in this French top flight game on May 1, 2016. Batshuayi’s goal midway through the first half separated both sides at the final whistle and gave OM an eight point lead over third from bottom Reims, meaning that OM will stay in Ligue 1 next season.

The race for CL Spots in Ligue 1

With just three rounds of fixtures left in the 2015/16 Ligue 1 season, there is a tense battle going on to decide who will join champions Paris Saint-Germain as France’s representatives in Europe’s premier club competition next season.

As many as four teams are in the hunt for the two remaining spots- Olympique Lyon and AS Monaco are the usual suspects, but Nice and St.Etienne are in with a good shout too.

France has three Champions League spots available- the top two automatically go through to the group stage, while the third team has to go through the playoffs.

Player Watch Video Kevin Gameiro penalty vs Shakhtar Europa League

Kevin Gameiro continued his wonderful form for Sevilla as he scored his 26th goal of the season against Shakhtar in Lviv last night.
