The LFP (Ligue de Football Professionel) have announced the reintroduction of the relegation-promotion playoff from the upcoming 2016/17 season. The playoff will see the 18th place team in Ligue 1 take on the third place team from Ligue 2 over two legs, with the first leg played at the home stadium of the Ligue 2 outfit, with the Ligue 1 team then taking over as hosts for the return leg. Ligue 2 now officially has a new sponsor in the form of pizza giant Domino’s, who have struck a deal with the LFP to sponsor the French second division championship for four seasons beginning 2016/17 (till the end of the 2019/20 season). Domino’s title sponsorship deal is reportedly worth 1.5m million euros a year, according to reports from those in the know.
