The LFP (Ligue de Football Professionel) have announced the reintroduction of the relegation-promotion playoff from the upcoming 2016/17 season. The playoff will see the 18th place team in Ligue 1 take on the third place team from Ligue 2 over two legs, with the first leg played at the home stadium of the Ligue 2 outfit, with the Ligue 1 team then taking over as hosts for the return leg.

This will be the first promotion-relegation playoff in French top flight football since 1993 when Cannes gained promotion at the expense of Valencienes.
