Olympique Marseille claimed their first Ligue 1 home win of the New Year as they edged Bordeaux 1-0. The game was played behind closed doors, with OM victorious thanks to Boubacar Kamara’s 42nd minute strike.
Victory for Bordeaux could’ve seen them draw level on points with Marseille, but they were always going to find things tough at the Velodrome after having Salomon Kalou sent off midway through the first half.
The win lifts Rudi Garcia’s Marseille to 7th in the league table, just three points off fourth placed Saint-Etienne. As for Bordeaux, it was their third straight defeat in the space of 10 days, having lost twice to Strasbourg (once in the league, once in the Cup) prior to this clash.
The win was Marseille’s first league victory at home since early November, when they beat Dijon 2-0.
OM’s next game is at home to Amiens, while Bordeaux have a tough away clash at the Parc des Princes against Paris Saint-Germain.
