Week 24 Roundup- Marseille & Metz in nine goal thriller, Paris and ASM win

Here is the roundup of all the major action from the French top flight over the weekend in GW 24.

Match Week 24 started with Marseille hosting bottom of the table Metz on Friday evening. A tasty clash between Monaco and Olympique Lyonnais at Stade Louis II was the final item on the menu for Sunday!

Marseille 6-3 Metz

This game set a record for the highest scoring game in Ligue 1 in the 2017/18 season. Florian Thauvin, by most accounts a Newcastle flop, netted a hat trick for L’OM as they raced to a 5-0 lead by the hour mark. Metz scored thrice in the last 20 minutes to lend a degree of respectability to the scoreline and also send it into the record books!

Marseille Metz

Lille 0-3 PSG

Lille dropped into the relegation zone as fine goals from Neymar and Gonzalo Lo Celso saw Paris SG beat Les Dogues 3-0. The leaders are in pretty good touch, and their upcoming Champions League game against an out of form Real Madrid promises to be a very interesting matchup indeed, as evinced by the demand for it at FanSeats.co.uk.

Lo Celso’s great goal against LOSC

Nice 0-1 Toulouse

The biggest gainers over the weekend were Toulouse, who jumped from 19th to 15th courtesy of a wonder goal from Max Gradel that saw them beat Nice 1-0. As good as Jose Izquierdo’s wonder strike for Brighton across the Channel, if not better!

Monaco 3-2 Lyon

A great result for ASM, who played for more than a half with ten men and still managed to down Lyon 3-2. Rony Lopes was the hero for Monaco, winning it at the death after being set up by Stevan Jovetic. Disappointment for OL, who lead 2-0 at one stage in this game, and now drop from 2nd to fourth in the league standings.

Elsewhere, Yeni Gbakoto’s injury time winner saw Guingamp leapfrog Rennes in the league standings with a 1-0 win at Roazhon Park. Nantes’ push for a Champions League spot took a hit after a 3-2 loss away at Caen, for whom Damien Da Silva netted a brace. Montpellier drew level on points with Nice after beating Angers 2-1 while Bordeaux were 2-0 winners on the road against Strasbourg.
