Is Ligue 1 the easiest European league for strikers? Does it have the worst defenders in Europe?

This sample size released by Opta for the 2016/17 season (for the top five European domestic leagues) seems to suggest so. Yes, it’s a stat based on barely two months of the new season, but the fact that the top three strikers in terms of goals per minute all ply their trade in Ligue 1, does add to the general perception that the league is an easy hunting ground for forwards.

Lacazette, Cavani and Balotelli at 56,66 and 69 minutes per goal respectively top the charts. The other two representatives are both from the Serie A- with Gonzalo Higuain and Andrea Belotti featuring. No one from Spain or England in the list
