Mark Clattenburg to referee Euro 2016 final between France and Portugal

England’s Mark Clattenburg has been named to referee the Euro 2016 final between hosts France and Portugal this Sunday. Clattenburg’s previous games at this tournament include Czech Republic’s 2-2 draw with Croatia, Italy’s 2-0 win over Belgium and Poland’s win on penalties over Switzerland at the Round of 16.

Clattenburg and Mark Atkinson are the only two referees from England at Euro 2016

France’s semi-final win over Germany saw Nicola Rizzoli with the whistle while Bjorn Kuipers was in charge of Les Bleus’ quarterfinal against Iceland.

France ended Iceland’s fairytale run at the European Championships by beating them 4-2 in Saint-Denis in the last quarterfinal of Euro 2016. Arsenal forward Olivier Giroud bagged a brace for Les Bleus, with Paul Pogba, Antoine Griezmann and Dimi Payet also scoring for the hosts.

Iceland, who beat England in the Round of 16, scored two goals.
